The Human Development Institute was founded in 1988 to provide an annual conference for counselors, deans, teachers, nurses, and Human Development teachers to come together and explore the personal, social, and ethical issues that are affecting the lives of our students and our schools. To discover more, click on "About HDI."

Since 1988, the Institute has branched out in many directions, including consulting to schools on human development programs, training human development educators, and lecturing and teaching in many areas of adolescent development. A very exciting and promising study sponsored by the Human Development Institute is the Independent School Gender Project, begun in February, 1997 with the provocative question, "Are We There Yet, Mom? " to address equity issues for men and women, and boys and girls in Independent Schools. Click on "Gender Project" for more information.

The mission of the Independent School Gender Project was established in 1997 to "create a framework of research, assessment, and strategies for change through which schools can address gender based practices and attitudes effecting girls and women in order to promote whole and healthy environments for both females and males in our schools."
